The trends and research topics presented in this publication are based on a general view on developments in agriculture. Agricultural technology developments must always support sustainable agriculture with respect to the three pillars of sustainability which are ecology, economy, and social sustainability. As a result of the activities of ManuFUTURE European Technology Sub-Platform “Agricultural Engineering and Technologies” (Sub ETP AET, AET) and VDI’s Technical Division „Max Eyth Society for Agricultural Engineering“ the VDI Roadmap presents the „Strategic Research Agenda for Agricultural Engineering“ in plant production with strong focus on arable farming.

The publication presents the trends doe the next decade after 2020 in agricultural and development agricultural technology. The greatest potential lies in the improvement of process management, the introduction of digital technologies, and the use of renewable energies in all areas of agriculture operations.
