This standard is part of the revised and significantly expanded version of the standard VDI 3817 from February 2010 to the new series of standards VDI/WTA 3817. The series of standards provides users with practical working documents, decision-making aids, assessment and evaluation criteria as well as checklists for procedures appropriate to listed buildings when carrying out construction work in listed buildings and buildings worthy of preservation. This series of standards provides comprehensive recommendations for professional action in terms of monument preservation and construction technology and, at the same time, advice on how to avoid construction defects, planning errors or other mistakes. VDI/TWA 3817 Part 1 contains the monument preservation principles. It is therefore indispensable for the application of this standard. The operation and maintenance of listed buildings and buildings of heritage value place special demands on owners, operators and users. This standard shows criteria and aspects to be considered for the operation, maintenance and, if necessary, the transitional initial protection of listed or heritage buildings.
