This standard serves as an aid for engineering organisations (EO). It is intended to support organisations in assessing their own current situation, give advice on what target statuses might be desirable under the given constraints and conditions of the organisation, points out possible ways (suitable or necessary measures) towards the desired target statuses, explains the causal dependencies between measures and the necessary prerequisites that make these measures work out, and demonstrates which costs, risks and chances are linked to introducing a measure. The standard can be applied to EOs that plan, create and/or commission automated machines or plants and focuses on the equipment used in the EOs.
