This standard describes procedures for the determination and quantification of diffusively emitted particulate matter such as PM10 and PM2,5 from industrial plants including agricultural sources. It supplements and details the requirements of VDI 4285 Part 1 which specifies the general principles for the determination of diffusive emissions. Procedures for identification of sources and different approaches for determination of the emission rate of relevant diffusive sources are presented. Diffuse sources in the sense of this standard include industrial plants emitting particulate matter from non-conducted sources, which may arise e.g. from the exhaust air of an industrial hall in production processes or from the handling and transport of dust emitting materials. Furthermore, diffusive dust emissions may arise from agricultural sources such as big livestock farming or agriculturally treated areas. This guideline allows the analysis of the chemical speciation of these particles. It may be applied also to bioaerosols when direct methods are used. This standard is addressed to everyone involved in the planning, performance or evaluation of measurements for the determination of diffusively emitted particulate matter such as PM10 and PM2,5 from industrial plants including agricultural sources. The contents of this standard can be used as a reference by clients and contractors alike, for example, for formulating requirements and performance specifications for such investigations.
