This standard deals with the measurement of fallen precipitation per unit of horizontal area within a time unit. Conventional methods for precipitation measurement are described and specifications for installing the measuring instruments are provided. The standard does not cover the collection of precipitation for chemical analysis, as described instruments are made of materials that may change the precipitation sample chemically. The standard is aimed at the following target groups: wind energy sector, municipalities, building authorities, state offices (air, water, waste, ecology), environmental protection officers, trade supervisory offices, state environmental offices, urban or landscape planners and designers, airport companies, German Weather Service, ecological, geographical and meteorological university institutes, consulting engineers, users and producers of environmental simulations.
