The standard describes a standard procedure to ensure safe operation of additive manufacturing machines using laser beam melting of metallic parts. The relevance and applicability of existing regulations from contiguous fields of technology is reviewed in each particular case. The scope of this standard are CE-labelled encapsulated laser beam melting machines. Operators of laser beam melting machines are obligated to perform and document a risk assessment. This standard supports in a practicable and understandable way. This standard mainly aims at operators of laser beam melting machines and at persons or companies planning to purchase and run such machines with metal parts.
