Optical sensors are increasingly being used in coordinate measuring technology. This technology promises faster and more flexible measurements. However, optical sensors can only fully exploit their advantages if they are optimally calibrated and monitored. The revised standard supplements the standard DIN EN ISO 10360-7 and is to be applied only in conjunction with it. The differences to the previous edition of the standard VDI/VDE 2617 Part 6.1 are presented and notes are added which have not been included in DIN EN ISO 10360-7. To give the user an overview of the available technologies, optical sensors for the measurement of lateral structures are described in the Annex. In addition, important definitions are given for the structure resolution of optical sensors and notes on the monitoring of CMMs with optical sensors and articulating joints.
