Abstract

This standard is part of the revised and significantly expanded version of the standard VDI 3817 from February 2010 to the new series of standards VDI/WTA 3817. The standard contains the monument preservation principles for the subsequent parts comprising the subjects "Building Design" (Part 2), "Technical Building Equipment" (Part 3) and "Facility Management" (Part 4). It is therefore indispensable for the application of these standards. The series of standards provides users with practical working documents, decision-making aids, assessment and evaluation criteria as well as checklists for procedures appropriate to listed buildings when carrying out construction work in listed buildings and buildings worthy of preservation. This series of standards provides comprehensive recommendations for professional action in terms of monument preservation and construction technology and, at the same time, advice on how to avoid construction defects, planning errors or other mistakes. The standard provides an overview of the basic principles of historic preservation, such as laws, organizations and procedures, as well as the general planning principles and methods necessary to achieve the goals of historic preservation.
