The standard describes the graphical representation of processes by a grid in which states and process operators defined in process engineering are united via directed edges. A status ante operationem is transferred to a status post operationem via the process operator. This simple graphical process-oriented pattern is represented by an information model which primarily describes the objects, their attributes and relations with the help of UML classification diagrams. The presented process description allows for the integration of an engineering-conform process view and a computer-science-oriented description in a standardised universal and configurable (i.e. structured and configurable) information model. The formalised process description is applicable to all types of processes - technical or non-technical, as well as continuous processes, batch or singular processes, in all fields of technical application. The standard supports an interdisciplinary understanding of all phases of the life cycle of technical systems, especially the over-all life cycle phases of a plant.
