A frequent application of Monte Carlo Simulation is the calculation of reliability and availability. However, the method is also very useful for other applications. Issues such as reliability and availability are especially highly topical when it comes to digitalisation. New scientific findings have been incorporated into this version of the standard. Monte Carlo Simulation has become more established and new fields of application have been added. As part of the revision of the standard, the focus is much more on the application of the method. In order to emphasise the general benefits and broad applicability, particular attention was paid to expanding the industry focus of the examples. Nevertheless, the basic principles were not omitted. The standard is intended to provide an overview of the minimum requirements, prior knowledge, data and prerequisites for using the Monte Carlo Simulation for an initial application. The method itself is industry-neutral and can be used regardless of the size and type of a company. The standard is also aimed at designers and users of simulation software and algorithms. Furthermore, it also offers non-experts the opportunity to gain an overview of the method.
