Air pollution can lead to plant damage and accumulation of pollutants in plants. Systematic investigations of such substance accumulations allow conclusions to be drawn about the extent of the effects of air pollution and possible risks for plants, animals, and humans. Curly kale plants have been successfully used in bioindicative studies for many years. Their leaf characteristics favour an immission-related accumulation of, in particular, persistent organic air pollutants; but also immission-related inputs of (heavy) metals can be recorded. The standard specifies the process steps and technical devices required for cultivation and exposure. Typical current background values are given for orientation. The standard is addressed to environmental experts, environmental engineering offices, institutes in the field of environmental monitoring, state environmental authorities, Federal Environment Agency, Federal Ministry for the Environment, environmental associations, universities.
