This standard provides guidelines on the planning, technical requirements and operation of ventilation and air conditioning plants with decentralised ventilation systems for office and administration buildings as well as other non-residential buildings. Units considered are decentralised ventilation units equipped with fans (façade ventilation units and secondary air units). They provide ventilation of individual rooms by taking in outdoor air through mechanical intake openings at the façade and supplying it to the room following at least one thermodynamic treatment. The standard enables building planners, architects and specialist planners to plan a decentralised ventilation system that can be operated in an energy-efficient and cost-effective manner. Systems with central or decentralised extract air in connection with outdoor air inlets in the façade are not addressed by this standard. The delimitation to the central ventilation and air conditioning systems has been drawn up such that all such systems are assigned to VDI 3803 Part 1, in which the components are connected via an air pipe network of the supply air with a centralised ventilation and air conditioning device. The current revision of the standard takes into account current technical rules (e.g. DIN EN 16798, ISO 16890) and EU Regulations (Regulations (EU) No 1253/2014 and (EU) No. 1254/2014) and also gives consideration to secondary-air units.
