- Abstract
-
Increasing global warming and the resulting physical increase in evaporation leads to increased drying out and warming of the upper soil layers, especially the bare soil, and thus has an increasing influence on the conditions for the spread of airborne impurities and the local climate. Soil temperature is also of interest for some technical processes. The standard is used to investigate all atmospheric processes for which the natural vegetated or bare soil is a boundary condition to be taken into account. These are the conditions for the spread of airborne impurities and odours, for which a strongly heated and dried soil in particular has a significant effect on convection processes. When it comes to questions of local climatology, the condition of the soil is crucial for the Bowen ratio, i.e. the relationship between sensible and latent (evaporative) heat, and is therefore responsible for the formation of the urban heat island and the identification of areas with a cooling effect. In addition, it can be used in agricultural meteorology and in the control of systems for the technical use of ground heat. This standard also supports efforts to adapt and supplement the content of VDI Standards to the effects of climate change.
