- Abstract

Meteorological measurements are necessary for numerous environmentally relevant questions, e.g. air quality, energy business, heating and air conditioning technology, building industry, transportation, urban and regional planning as well as for the purpose of controlling weather-dependent cycles. The necessary data are determined by making measurements and observations in the ground-level atmosphere but also in the higher atmospheric zone. This data include wind speed and direction, air temperature, air humidity, air pressure, precipitation, solar and terrestrial radiation, and atmospheric turbidity. The standard presents an overview of general problems in meteorological measurements and provides basic meteorological knowledge for meteorological measurement purposes. It contains instructions how to handle calibration, recording, and evaluation of the meteorological data as well as the installation and maintenance of instruments. This standard is directed particularly towards measurement technicians, engineers and other specialists without a special meteorological training as well as the manufacturers of meteorological instruments.
