The standard describes the elements summarized under the term "drive systems" that are required to operate a belt conveyor. It enables the designer or operator of belt conveyor systems to select the appropriate drive system. The standard deals with the different elements and types of drives in the area of belt conveyors for bulk goods. Part 2 od the series of standards deals with the operation of the respective drive systems. Some of the descriptions and typical features can also be applied to the selection and design of drives in other areas.
