The standard describes the state of the art in powder coating. The scope extends from pretreatment of surfaces to be coated and application processes to shipping and transport of workpieces or products. Thermosetting and thermoplastic powder coatings are applied only. Powder coating processes utilised are powder spray coating with electrostatic assistance, fluidised bed coating with and without electrostatic assistance, coating of pre-heated objects, flame spraying as well as flocking and centrifugal methods. In plants exclusively used for powder coating, no waste gas cleaning of ducted gaseous streams is required. Instead, the dust of the exhaust gas is separated and fed back to the indoor air of the factory buildings. The dust content of the fed back clean air are far below one milligramme per m<(hoch)3>. For plants with alternating use of powder coatings with VOC-containing paints, the corresponding emission limits are listed in the standard. Powder residues can generate from manufacture and processing. Pure and unmixed residues can be incorporated in new powder coating batches. Reuse of powder paint residues is only possible if they are free of foreign matter. Energy efficiency aspects of powder coating processes are discussed in a separate section of the standard.
