The standard sets maximum immission values (MI values) for cadmium. According to the current state of knowledge, the cadmium levels mentioned do not impair the health and performance of animals, even after long-term intake, and do not lead to any questionable contamination of the food derived from them, so that there is no risk of damage to human health after consumption of this food. The derivation of MI values for cadmium is based on long-term experiments to determine dose-response relationships in farm animals. This standard is addressed in particular to all persons who directly or indirectly handle or come into contact with the farm animal species listed here and the food derived from them.
