This standard applies to dry vacuum assisted and combined wet/dry vacuum assisted sweepers and solely for wet vacuum assisted sweepers that can be constructed as purpose-built or combined sweepers and are used primarily for municipal purposes. Other special vehicles are not covered by this standard. This standard describes the state of the art of the above mentioned sweepers, which can be considered particularly as fine dust reduced and with low-emission charteristics. In addition to the cleaning of coarse and fine dusts these sweepers are also suitable to collect coarse dirt particles such as pieces of branches, small stones, paper or plastic parts up to filled bottles. To determine the possible contribution of reduced particulate emissions of sweepers observing ambitious emission values for dust particles a measurement program under direction and management of the German Federal Environmental Agency (Umweltbundesamt) has been performed. The method used in the measurement procedure is described in detail. The results of this test program were integrated in the standard. Since only a few studies exist on emissions for road sweeping, the standard also provides an overview of the current state of knowledge. The standard describes in detail with which process control measures the requirements for low-emission sweepers are met.
