The International Standard DIN ISO 28902-2 specifies requirements and performance procedures for the use of heterodyne pulsed Doppler lidar systems for the determination of the atmospheric wind (radial wind velocity). DIN ISO 28902-2 can be used for the following applications: monitoring of air pollution dispersion; Routine measurements of wind profiles at meteorological stations; weather briefing, e. g. for aircrafts, airport security, marine operations, oil platforms; wind power generation, e. g. asset valuation, determination of performance characteristics. DIN ISO 28902-2 addresses manufacturers as well as institutions that test and certify the compliance of the systems. It also gives recommendations for the appropriate use of these devices by the end user. DIN ISO 28902-2 was prepared by ISO / TC 146 "Air Quality", SC 5 "Meteorology", under participation of German experts in WG 6 "lidar" (Chairmanship: AFNOR, Secretariat: DIN).
