The present Standard DIN EN ISO 13833 describes a sampling strategy as well as analytical procedures for the determination of biomass and fossil fuel derived CO2 in the total emitted CO2 from exhaust gases of stationary sources, based on the determination of the radioactive carbon isotope <(hoch)14>C. Sampling strategies for periods from 1 hour up to 1 month are given. The methods for the determination of the radioactive carbon isotope <(hoch)14>C include accelerated mass spectrometry and beta ionization and liquid scintillation measurement procedures. The lower limit of application is a biogenic CO2 fraction of 0,02. The working range for biogenic CO2 lies between 0,02 and 1,0. The expanded measurement uncertainty of the method is 10 % for biogenic CO2 fractions of 0,02 to 0,10 and 5 % for biogenic CO2 fractions of 0,1 to 1,0.
